Enuresis

Why do some children suffer from involuntary night-time bedwetting?
First of all let us make it clear that involuntary night-time bedwetting is a hereditary predisposed and not a mentally or organically conditioned disorder. Nevertheless it is a problem which should be seriously dealt with. A problem which makes children feel insecure and afraid of being exposed to teasing and therefore affecting the relationship to their friends.
Try to imagine the kid's frustration for not being able to go to a camp school or sleep over at a friend's place because he/she is not able to stay dry at night.
Although involuntary night-time bedwetting hasn't really been anything people talked about, at least not until recently, surveys show that about 15 % of all 7-year-old kids suffer from enuresis nocturna (about 3 kids in a class!). 1-2 % of 16-18 -year-old teenagers still have the disorder.
A secure and safe method of treatment is important to the children and their parents.
It is important that both children and grown-ups feel comfortable about the treatment and the way the alarms work in order to achieve the desired result.
All Astrid Leisner & Søn alarms are delivered with a complete set of treatment instructions and schedules which make it easy to follow the treatment closely.

Treatment
Treatment with Astrid Leisner & Søn enuresis alarms is simple and efficient and superior to all other kinds of treatment. It is safe and has no side effects.
AL-enuresis alarm gets activated by only a few drops of urine after which it wakes up the child. That way the conditioned reflexes that haven't been developed in early childhood are trained - the child learns to wake up before wetting the bed or to suppress the urge to urinate.
Leading pediatricians and urologists all around the world agree on recommending treatment with alarms as first option for treatment. Results based on clinical surveys of 948 children carried out by Dr Henning Tøjner show that 83,3% stay dry after the first treatment whereas about 16% need to go under the treatment twice to achieve a permanent result.
Experience shows that the child stays dry after a 8-12 -week treatment. That combined with a 30-year experience in treating enuresis is the reason why Astrid Leisner can guarantee an efficient and safe course of treatment.
Conditions for success
In order to achieve a positive result with AL-enuresis alarms you have to bear in mind the following:
- The child is never self-motivated to stay dry at the age of 5, that usually happens at the age of 7 and older.
- The parents must have the energy to support and help the child during the entire period of treatment.
- Contact the person providing treatment guiding possibly at least every 14th – 21st day. Parents who use AL's free phone-guidance have 15 to 20 % bigger chance for achieving a positive result. Astrid Leisner & Søn help more than 80% of the kids stay dry when the treatment guidance is followed. The person guiding throughout the treatment can be also another one experienced in using enuresis alarms, e.g. the personal GP or a nurse.
Astrid Leisner has developed many kinds of high-quality alarms with a user-friendly design.
